If Quantock Lakes looks like the perfect venue for you, or if you have already secured a date with us, then it’s likely you have some questions. We may have covered some during your viewing appointment, but just in case you have some more, we have put together a list of the most frequently asked questions for you to refer to and read at your leisure.

You can protect your date for 24 hours while you take some time to think. After the non-obligation 24 hours you can confirm to release the date or confirm your wedding with us by placing a deposit payment of £1800.

You will need to make three payments. The initial deposit payment of £1800.00 to secure your date.
50% of your balance is to be paid nine months before your wedding date and then final payment is due one month before the big day.
Any payments made towards your booking will be updated on your “Booking at a Glance”. We do not hold any personal payment or account details due to data protection.
Any refunds such as damage deposits or booking refunds will only be refunded into a named account belonging to an individual named on the contract.

We have a minimum requirement of 80 adult day guests. We offer a minimum of 60 adult guests on selected low season weekdays. We have a minimum requirement of 100 adult day guests for peak summer Saturday dates.

Yes, we have a maximum allowance of 10 child guests aged 2 - 10 years old.

Yes, we have a maximum capacity of 250 day guests.

Yes, we have a maximum capacity of 500 evening guests.

You can amend your guest numbers and add extras throughout the planning process. Please remember our minimum requirement of at least 80 adult guests by the way of physical guests. Accommodation, food and drink cannot be removed from your booking.

Your wedding booking includes two planning meetings with our team. We will be in touch to arrange your 6–9 month planning meeting and your final planning meeting, which takes place approximately 4–6 weeks before your wedding.
Planning meetings are held weekdays only, either via video call or in person at the venue.
As we carefully manage our calendar to support all booked couples we are unable to offer additional ad hoc meetings or private visits outside of these appointments. However, we do host exclusive drop in events twice a year where booked couples are invited to revisit the venue and accommodation, often with close family members or VIP guests.

Following your planning meetings, we will create your Function Sheet, the master document that forms the operational plan for your wedding day. This includes all agreed timings, supplier details, logistics and arrangements discussed during planning.
As this document is used across multiple internal teams to coordinate your event, we work exclusively from the latest emailed version of your Function Sheet. Any amendments or updates must therefore be confirmed by email to the Planning Team.
To avoid errors or missed details, we’re unable to accept changes via WhatsApp, text message, phone call, or informal messaging channels.

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own decoration as long as they do not cause any damage to the venue and grounds. We have in house wedding decor that can can be added to your wedding booking and we can recommend external decor suppliers to bring your ideas to life.
We do not allow you to blow up your own helium balloons on site, this must be carried out by a professional company.

You will be asked to deliver table decorations in labelled table boxes at an agreed time that will be discussed in your planning meeting.

We are lucky to work with some fantastic local wedding suppliers and you can view our recommended supplier list here.
We also offer a selection of beautiful in-house décor packages, which can be added to your booking to make planning even easier.
If you choose to bring in external suppliers, these must be approved in advance by your Planning Team. To ensure the smooth and safe running of your wedding day, all external suppliers are required to provide:
Valid Public Liability Insurance documentation
Current PAT testing certificates (where applicable)
These should be submitted in advance wherever possible. If documentation has not been provided beforehand, suppliers must have copies available for review on arrival during set up.
By your final planning meeting, we will need the full contact details for each supplier.
Suppliers will be allocated a specific set up time, either during your agreed day before access slot (if included in your booking) or on the morning of your wedding. Any requests to change supplier arrival or set-up times must be confirmed in writing via our Planning Team email address and approved by us in advance.
If any supplier requires access to venue or grounds power, our team will advise on the appropriate connection points. For safety reasons, any power connection, testing, or equipment set-up must take place with a Wedding Manager or Venue Owner present. Protected outdoor sockets available are 230V/16A single phase or 400V/32A three phase. Unauthorised use of venue power sources is strictly prohibited.
Please note that any outdoor equipment or installations set up in advance of the wedding day are left entirely at the supplier’s and/or client’s own risk. Any outdoor equipment requiring power must be disconnected, switched off, and made safe overnight unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing by the venue.
Quantock Lakes accepts no liability for damage, disruption or loss arising from unauthorised supplier access, incorrect equipment installation or unauthorised connection to venue utilities.

We permit confetti outdoors only.
Confetti use outdoors must be petals or fully biodegradable.
We recommend dried or fresh petals in particular to keep the lawns looking fabulous.

Yes there are restrictions. We do not allow any home made edible favours. If you choose to have edible favours they must be professionally made and packed with the ingredient and allergy list. We do not allow any alcoholic favours.

You can invite 80 or up to 250 guests for your ceremony at Quantock Lakes.

Saturdays are the most popular day to marry at Quantock Lakes.
We also offer Thursday and Monday/Tuesday weddings.
We offer a limited number of weddings each year so we can ensure the venue and accommodation is at its best and available in good time for all of our couples.

We recommend a ceremony time of 13:30hrs.
However, we are also very happy to work with you depending on your plans for the day.

You will need to contact the registrars yourselves to book your wedding ceremony. The registrars only take a booking and payment from the couple themselves.
Somerset Registration costs are not included.
You will need to book your ceremony time with the Somerset Registration office directly and they will guide you through their costs and procedures.

Yes you can. The church closest to the venue is Nether Stowey and forms part of the view of the Quantock Hills.

We have a sound system for ceremony music. You may wish to book live music for your wedding ceremony.
We recommend one walking in track / song.
Three tracks / songs for the signing of the register.
Plus one walking out track / song.
We can also provide background music for your wedding reception and wedding breakfast or you can create your own playlist to use. Our music plays everywhere at Quantock Lakes, venue areas, outside patios , lake pontoon and toilets.

We recommend taking out wedding insurance as soon as you have booked your wedding. Insurance can protect you from financial losses due to illness, accidents, cancellations and other unforeseen circumstances during the build up to or on the wedding day itself. Your Venue and Accommodation Security Deposit will be added to your booking at the Final Planning Meeting.
Any damage to the Venue, Accommodation, furnishings, fixtures or equipment, along with excessive soiling requiring specialist cleaning, may result in deductions from the Security Deposit.
Any issues identified will be documented and supported with photographic evidence where appropriate. Initial damage notifications will normally be provided within 24–72 hours following the event. Please note that in some cases, final costs and invoices from third-party contractors or suppliers may take up to 7 days to be confirmed.
Where the cost of repair, replacement or cleaning exceeds the value of the Security Deposit, the remaining balance will be invoiced separately.
Damaged items will be repaired or replaced on a like-for-like basis where possible. Any outsourced labour, specialist cleaning or skilled works will be carried out by approved contractors appointed by F.G. Jeanes & Son Ltd.
Please note that any emergency contractor call-out required during or immediately following an event will incur a minimum call-out charge of £200 plus the cost of any materials, parts or additional labour required.
All bed linen and towels are supplied through an outsourced professional linen provider. Any excessive soiling, including but not limited to sickness, wetting beds, bodily fluids or other staining that results in items being rejected by the linen company, will be charged at the applicable write-off or replacement cost. We will only charge the direct costs charged to us by the linen provider.

We will inform the couple of any lost property found in the venue or accommodation. Personal belongings that are found in the venue or accommodation will be stored safely but will be disposed of after 4 weeks.

There are strict laws relating to underage drinking. Our policy at Quantock Lakes is not to allow anyone under the age of 18 to consume alcohol within any of our premises. We believe this is a responsible approach to protect children and our licensed premises in the sale of alcohol.

We have zero tolerance of any aggressive or abusive behaviour towards members of staff at Quantock Lakes. Aggressive or abusive behaviour includes language that may cause staff to feel afraid, threatened or abused and may include threats, personal verbal abuse, derogatory remarks and rudeness. We also consider inflammatory statements, remarks of a discriminatory nature and unsubstantiated allegations, to be abusive behaviour. Where a customer is aggressive or abusive, we will where appropriate give a warning that the individual will be asked to leave the premises if the behaviour continues. For more serious issues we will ask a customer to leave the premises immediately. This decision will be at the discretion of the Event Manager.

Yes. We reserve the right, at our absolute discretion, to decline or discontinue booking discussions where we consider a proposed booking to be unsuitable or incompatible with the ethos, values, or operational standards of our venue.

Yes. New bookings will only be accepted once both members of the couple have attended a viewing appointment. Attendance by both parties is a mandatory requirement prior to any booking being confirmed.

Quantock Lakes has 2 licensed barns for your civil ceremony.
Rustic Barn is licensed for up to 120 guests and Quantock Barn is licensed up to 400 guests.
The Lake Pontoon and is available in summer months and only in perfect weather conditions. The criteria for being able to hold a ceremony outside is based on the following - Under 10% chance of rain in a block of 4 hours around the ceremony time (based on the selection of weather apps Quantock Lakes use), temperature of 20 degrees and above and wind speed under 10km/h. The final decision for holding a ceremony outside will fall with Quantock Lakes management team and for logistics planning the decision will be made at the latest on morning the day before the wedding.
Somerset Registration costs are not included in your booking.
You will need to book your ceremony time with the Somerset Registration office directly and they will guide you through their costs and procedures.

Yes there is disabled access and a disabled toilet at the venue. We also have a disabled room in the Quantock Barns called the Shire Horse and room 1 in the Granary.

Yes wi-fi is available at Quantock Lakes but please note that we are a rural venue and super-fast broadband has not quite reached us yet!

Yes we have microphones available for speeches.

Yes we have a sound system that is available for background music in all areas of the venue, inside and out. Music can be discussed in more detail at planning meetings.

Yes you can have fireworks at the venue. We have an exclusive supplier who you must use and due to our rural surroundings we only offer whisper displays. If you would like fireworks please contact Sonic fireworks directly.

Band and Supplier access is from the back of the venue, follow signs for “deliveries and staff staff parking” on arrival. This is a left turn off of the tree lined driveway.

Rustic Barn
Rustic Barn is our main ceremony room seating up to 110 guests.
After the ceremony it is transformed into an area with a couple poser tables and sofa / 2 armchairs in front of the fire.
Walkway
From Rustic Barn to the Quantock Barn – the double doorway is 200cm wide x 222cm high.
This walkway is used as our main entrance into the venue and the welcome table is located here.
Quantock Barn
Quantock Barn is approximately 30 meters long x 10 meters wide, however you need to consider the bar and snug area within any measurements you may need.
Quantock Barn will be used for your evening celebrations.
Quantock Barn will be used as the central hub for the day.
Quantock Barn is the location of our main bar.
Quantock Barn is our second ceremony room for larger weddings with more than 110 guests.
Meadow Barn
Meadow Barn is 24 meters long and 14 meters wide.
Meadow Barn will be used for your wedding breakfast and speeches.
Franks Bar
Franks bar will be open for pre ceremony drinks if your ceremony is taking place in the Quantock Barn. After the ceremony this bar will be closed and the main Quantock bar will be open for the remainder of the wedding.

Quantock Lakes is set within beautiful grounds, lakes, landscaped outdoor spaces, and our pontoon all of which form part of the charm of the venue. However, as with any countryside setting, we ask all guests to take care and act responsibly at all times.
Children must be supervised by a parent or responsible adult at all times whilst on site, particularly around the lakes, pontoon, water’s edge, outdoor pathways, and open grounds. Parents and guardians remain fully responsible for the supervision, safety, and behaviour of children throughout their time at the venue.
Swimming, paddling, entering the water, diving, jumping or any other recreational use of the lakes is strictly prohibited for all guests at all times. The lakes are not designated swimming areas and can present significant safety risks including varying depths, submerged hazards, slippery edges, and cold water.
For safety reasons external electrical points, utility connections, pumps, plant equipment, and service infrastructure must not be tampered with or used without express permission from the venue team.
You may spot our hardworking robot mower affectionately known as Shaun the Sheep, helping to keep the lawns looking their best. Shaun operates on a carefully managed schedule around weddings, set ups and venue operations. Please do not touch, move, interfere with or obstruct the mower at any time as it contains sharp moving blades and may operate automatically.
Any damage, disruption, injury, or loss resulting from unauthorised interference with venue equipment, utilities, grounds infrastructure, machinery, or failure to follow venue safety guidance may remain the responsibility of the individual(s) involved.

We have our own exclusive catering partners Food4You. Our menus can be found here.
All you have to do is select your menu and we will organise the rest. We will cater for any dietary requirements and this can be discussed in more detail at your planning meeting.
If selecting a BBQ menu please note that this is only available during the summer months (April - September).
Supplemented costs (in addition to standard menu cost):
If you would like to offer your guests a choice on the starter, main or dessert this comes at a supplemented cost.
There are also some menu options that incur a supplemented cost and this is noted within the menu detail.

You are not able to bring your own drinks to the venue and we do not offer corkage.
We provide a wide range of alcoholic and soft drinks at our bar and offer reception drinks, toast drinks and wine service.
If you are staying in the accommodation you are welcome to bring your own food and drink but this cannot be consumed during the wedding celebrations or in the venue grounds. Alcohol brought into the venue will be confiscated and any lost alcohol sales will be deducted from the couples security deposit.

No, we have exclusive in-house caterers.
With the exception of your wedding cake (of the sweet variety) we do not allow external catering.
It is our policy that you request permission for any edible items being brought into Quantock Lakes venue, if permitted, the item will need to arrive with a full ingredient and allergen list. This also applies to the wedding cake and favours.

We understand that you or your guests may have dietary requirements.
It is your responsibility to advise us of any allergies which your guests have made you aware of. Please ensure all dietary requirements are provided in full and writing for the Final Planning Meeting. All of our menus have been marked with the allergens which are present and this is available for you to view once your menu choices have been made. On the day of your wedding we will ensure that all special dietary requests have been met, and an allergen free substitution will have been made. This will have been agreed with you in your planning document. You will provide a detailed table plan showing where each of the special diet guests are sat. If you do not inform us of any special dietary requirements within 3 days of your event it may not be possible to accommodate this request. If any requests are made on the day of your wedding we will do our best to accommodate these, but it may not be possible.
In the case of severe allergies, such as nuts, peanuts and sesame seeds we will take even more care when preparing your menu and we insist that you choose a nut, peanut or sesame seed free menu to protect your guests as much as possible. However, even though extreme care will be taken we cannot guarantee any dishes free from trace elements due to the nature of the kitchens and our suppliers’ kitchens.
It is your responsibility to ensure this also applies for the wedding cake and any favours you may wish to supply. We request that you make us aware of the favours and cake being supplied along with details of the suppliers. Homemade or alcoholic favours are not permitted.
Your chosen menu tasting appointments are available on set days. The starting cost is £160 inclusive of VAT. Depending on your choices, extra costs may be incurred and the planning team can send you details on how this works.
Please let the planning team know as soon as possible if you would like an appointment as they are held on set days of the year.

At Quantock Lakes your wedding booking includes 2 nights in the Farmhouse, sleeping up to 18 guests across 8 ensuite bedrooms.
The Quantock Barns sleeps up to 26 guests in 9 dwellings. This can be booked as 1 or 2 night stay.
The Granary Barn sleeps up to 18 guests as standard with the option to add a further 6 beds if required.
Please note the accommodation is booked on a self catering basis and does not include a change of linen and cleaning service.
The accommodation will be available from 4pm. Guests will need to be aware where they are staying prior to arrival as there is no check in / reception facility after 5pm.

Most wedding parties stay for 2 nights (the night before your wedding day and the night of your wedding).Accommodation cannot be removed from your booking once you have confirmed your booking.

The Farmhouse includes a Bridal Prep Suite, Hot Tub and Sauna.
The Quantock Barns include a Bridal Suite called the Posh Pig, a Bridal Barn called the Wagon House, a games room, BBQ area with picnic benches and outside hot tub located outside the Wagon House.
The Granary Barn includes a private indoor swimming pool, hot tub, BBQ lodge, pool table and children’s outdoor play area.

The Farmhouse sleeps 18 guests across 8 bedrooms (including one family room sleeping 4). Rooms can be configured as king size of twin beds depending on your requirements.
The Quantock Barns sleeps 26 guests across 3 barn conversions, comprising 9 individual dwellings.
The Granary sleeps 18 guests across 9 bedrooms. Rooms can be configured as king size or twin beds depending on your requirements.
There are an additional 6 beds in the Granary that can be added to your booking taking the capacity up to 24 guests across 9 bedrooms.

No. Quantock Lakes policy only allows the allocated number of people per room.

Breakfast is included on the morning after your wedding for guests staying in our accommodation, and is served in KITCHEN. If you would like breakfast to be provided for all guests on additional mornings, this can be arranged and added to your booking. For guests wishing to have breakfast on the morning of the wedding, we recommend booking a table at KITCHEN in advance.
Breakfast is served at 9:00am, and the space is cleared by 10:00am.

Yes we have a limited number of travel cots but we do not provide the bed linen.

We have a lovely restaurant on site serving breakfast and lunch from Thursday - Monday (closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays).

Check out is at 10.30am.The accommodation is all booked on a self catering basis. Our Housekeeping team will be on hand to show the lead guests into the Farmhouse and Granary. The Farmhouse has a keypad entry. The Granary has electric gates and a key entry with a key box. Individual rooms in the Farmhouse and Granary do not have separate keys.
For the rooms in the wedding village keys will be placed in the appropriate doors.
All guests staying in accommodation will need to know where they are staying prior to arrival.

Yes we allow well behaved dogs on site and they can stay at the accommodation.
Please note there will be an additional charge for this at £50 per dog.
